Home > Associate Degrees

Associate degrees are typically obtained in a two-year time frame. These are academic degrees. Associates are considered the lowest of the academic degrees. They generally fall into two separate categories.

The transfer degree is an Associate degree which is expected to lead into a 4-year university or college program. The student may complete general education courses which can be applied towards the Bachelor’s degree program and most major academic institutions in the U.S. Obtaining an Associate degree for transfer can be a less expensive option to paying for a 4 year college. Accredited Associate degrees are offered at community colleges, junior colleges, technical schools and similar advanced education establishments. Transfer Associate degrees are also a great option for someone who is employed while taking classes and needs a more flexible schedule to continue higher education. Be aware that not all courses offered for Associate degrees are recognized at all 4 year institutions.

The second type of Associate degree is the Career degree. These are designed to focus less on general studies and more on a specific professional field so that a person may continue directly into a career after the degree is completed. The career Associate degree recognized academic achievement in a field where education past high school may be required for employment.
